Meet Florence Star Award winner Petra [May ’23]

This May’s Florence Star Award winner is Petra. She’s been in healthcare for more than 15 years and enjoys making a positive impact on people’s lives. Here’s why we’re celebrating Petra this month…

Calm in a crisis

When working in a care setting, you have to prepare for the unexpected. If a crisis happens, it’s vital to stay calm and support coworkers, residents and patients as much as possible.

Petra, our well-deserved Florence Star Award winner this month, shines as a beacon of reason and empathy during challenging moments. We recently got some amazing feedback from a care home about Petra’s response to an unexpected death on the ward she’d been working in.

“The staff who worked with Petra last night said that she dealt with the situation in a very professional manner,” said the ward manager. “She supported everyone involved in a calm and approachable way.”

Even before the unfortunate event, staff on the ward gave glowing feedback about Petra.

“Petra is easy to talk to,” said the ward manager. “We had confidence in her from the very beginning and we’re so impressed with how well she’s settled in.”

It’s never easy when patients pass away, and we’re so glad to hear about Petra’s kindness and advocacy. We’re proud she’s a member of the Florence team.

Petra’s journey into care

Petra has been in healthcare for more than 15 years. She started her career as a HCA, before qualifying as a registered mental health nurse specialising in forensic and acute services just over three years ago.

Her favourite part of the job is getting to know patients and staff wherever she goes.

“I love meeting new people, and it’s rewarding to make a positive impact on patients’ lives,” says Petra. “Going home at the end of a shift knowing you’ve done your best is amazing.”

One of our values here at Florence is “Build a positive team”, and we think Petra lives by that mantra.

Working with Florence

“Florence is an easy company to work with,” says Petra. “Everyone I talk to is very professional and supportive.”

Petra likes the control she has over her work-life balance when scheduling her week with the Florence app.

“I can pick my own shifts and choose when I want to work,” she says. “That’s really useful because it means I can spend more time with my family.”

When it comes to CPD-accredited training, Petra enjoys studying with Florence Academy.

“All the courses I’ve taken with Florence Academy have been great,” she says. “It’s easy to keep my certificates up to date.”

The benefits of a great team

“My job can be challenging,” says Petra, “but it’s rewarding when you’re part of a wonderful team.”

We’re so pleased Petra’s chosen to work with us, and we admire her positive energy and pleasant nature. Here’s to this month’s Florence Star!
